Through doing my media piece for Beacon I have come to realize that the Beauty Industry has ALOT of power. It controls how we think about ourselves, how we think about other people and how we perceive the cosmetics and other beauty/hair products we buy.
And HAIR.....I remember when I was in high school and the girls that were not so pretty in the 8th grade, by the 11th grade they had grown their hair long then suddenly they were the cats meow. Same face, same not so pretty girls that had maybe matured some into their bodys but for the most part it was the hair that was the difference. I know this from my own experience as well, trying to copy what everyone else was wearing at the time in the 90s, the long hair up high in the front and the sides with all the hair spray, when after a bitter break up with a boyfriend decided to spite him and cut my hair short. And everyone loved it. Because it fit my face, I have not tryed to grow long hair since. I have worn extensions a time or two but never gone through the torture of growing out my hair when I know now that my hair looks better short. Hair can transform someone instantly. Simple highlights, hairpainting, just a little darker color to fill some bad highlights and some bangs that would help hide a huge forhead. Not just the coloring of hair but the shape and the texture. Even parting your hair differntly can make a change for a day that may make you realize you want to keep it that way for a while. An up do can fix a bad hair day. Hide a bad tight perm till it loosens up on longer hair. Its an amazing force to rekon with and an amazing process to take part in as well. You have to love the process and have a passion and creative eye for the things that are sometimes not obvious and sometimes are. If you have ever heard a woman say shes having a bad hair day, take it to heart. Because bad hair that is not fixed can cause the whole day to feel like you have a pile of crap sitting on your shoulders. And thats because you feel like you literally do. And if you don't know the tricks to fix it ask your Beautician next time you are with her. She will let you know some secret tricks of the trade. Because she can't always be with you carrying a can of hairspray and a teasecomb (although it would be nice)..
